Welcome to the City of Bloomington’s B-Clear data portal!
On this page you will find information related to ten (10) data sets currently being collected and posted on a quarterly basis by the Bloomington Police Department. This same raw data is also uploaded to the Public Safety Data Portal associated with the White House Police Data Initiative which can be found at: http://publicsafetydataportal.org/
The White House Police Data Initiative was seen as a way for law enforcement agencies to meet recommendations made within the final report of the President’s Task Force on 21st Century Policing. The Task Force recommended and encouraged law enforcement agencies to become more transparent with information related to police-citizen interactions. The goal of being more transparent is to build and maintain trust between police and citizens in the communities they serve.
Mayor John Hamilton requires openness and transparency throughout City Government. In April, 2016, he announced that the Bloomington Police Department would be participating in the White House Police Data Initiative and included in his announcement the data sets on which the Department would be reporting. The various data sets posted here include an explanation of what is included in the information provided in an effort to make it easier for the reader to understand. As indicated previously, the information will be updated quarterly so it should be noted that the data may change as those updates take place.
Thank you for taking the time to review the information we have provided here. Our hope is that it provides insight into the interactions that take place between the Bloomington Police Department and the community we serve in our ongoing effort to earn and maintain the trust of our citizens.
